About

Writing showed me creativity can heal.

I’m Kayla Brown-Dixon.

I’m a Midwestern Black woman from who knows firsthand what it’s like to struggle with depression and anxiety. Over time, I discovered that one of the most comforting and healing outlets for me has been art — especially writing.

As I began sharing my personal experiences with mental health, self-love, and healing, I realized it wasn’t just helping me — it was helping others feel less alone.

I’m not a therapist — I’m a storyteller, advocate, and creative who shares her truth so others, especially young Black women, can feel seen and supported.

Whether through poetry, blog posts, or storytelling, my work is rooted in honest, creative expression. Writing remains the foundation of my practice, and I’m gradually exploring additional artistic avenues as part of my evolving creative journey.

Professionally, I’ve spent years working as a grant writer and communications specialist for nonprofits.

Outside of mental health advocacy and writing, I love talking about books, music, and animation.
